Barcelona showing interest in Super Eagles forward Lookman but he's not the top target
Published: March 22, 2025
Barcelona have reportedly set their sights on Ademola Lookman, who is expected to leave Atalanta at the end of the season.
Spanish sports daily Mundo Deportivo says Barcelona appreciate Lookman's quality but he is not the first or second candidate on the list of wingers they are targeting in the summer transfer window.
After clashing with Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini over a missed penalty during the second half of the Champions League match against Club Brugge, the Charlton Athletic academy graduate has made it clear that leaving his current club this summer is his top priority.
Last month, transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano reported that the Super Eagles forward is expected to leave Atalanta this summer.
Barcelona are looking to bolster their attack for next season, with Lookman emerging as a potential target, alongside players like Athletic Bilbao's Nico Williams and Liverpool's Luis Díaz.
With Lookman's deal set to expire in the summer of 2026, Atalanta might decide to cash in on the reigning African Footballer of the Year for €30 million at the end of the season to prevent the risk of losing him for nothing.
Since joining Atalanta from RB Leipzig in August 2022, the 27-year-old has tallied 50 goals and 22 assists in 110 matches across all competitions.
Lookman is currently on international duty with the Super Eagles and played a key role as the three-time African champions defeated Rwanda 2-0 in a 2026 World Cup qualifier in Kigali on Friday.
