Tolu Arokodare: What Eric Chelle told my parents after debut and what to expect v Zimbabwe
Published: March 24, 2025
Super Eagles forward Tolu Arokodare has revealed what Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle told his parents after his senior debut against Rwanda in Kigali last Friday.
Arokodare extended his gratitude to Eric Chelle for giving him the opportunity to represent the national team.
The Genk striker also commended the Malian tactician for his positive impact since his appointment in 2025.
Speaking in an interview with OJBsport TV, Arokodare highlighted Chelle’s influence on the squad, particularly in terms of mentality and playing philosophy.
"It feels amazing. The coach is the coach, he knows how he wants to play and I think everybody could see it in the intensity, the way we press, the way we play and the calmness, and attitude." Arokodare said.
"That's the impact of the coach. Also, I must say I am grateful to him for giving me my first call up and debut.
"I also said thank you to him and he said hi to my parents. Aside from a coach, he is very nice guy, he has special relationship with the players."
Despite the team’s convincing win over Rwanda, Arokodare cautioned against complacency, urging his teammates to remain focused and positive ahead of the Zimbabwe clash.
"I think there are better and greater things to come. We just have to stay positive and maintain the energy and not get over ourselves and stay focused.
Looking ahead to Tuesday’s encounter, the Genk forward remained optimistic that the Super Eagles can secure another crucial victory.
"I think Nigerians should expect nothing less or even better and hopefully we get the three points when we do everything right," he added.
With confidence running high in the Super Eagles camp, Nigerians would be eagerly anticipating another strong display from the team as they take on Zimbabwe in Uyo.
