'We have a lot of intelligent players' - Troost-Ekong confident Super Eagles will deliver v Warriors
Published: March 24, 2025
Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong addressed the media ahead of Nigeria's crucial 2026 World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe on Tuesday, stressing the importance of teamwork and adaptation.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference on Monday evening, Troost-Ekong highlighted the strength of the Super Eagles squad, acknowledging the team's high level of experience.
'Thankfully we have a lot of intelligent players, a lot of players that play at a high level. They will be used to changing tactics and maybe different coaches, so it's just adapting," he said.
The defender further emphasized the importance of collective harmony on the field.
"The coaches said it before as well, we have a lot of quality in our team, so it’s not trying to explain to players how they need to play football.
"It’s more about trying to get everyone playing in harmony and understanding, yeah, of the bigger picture, the bigger idea."
Reflecting on the team's recent performance, Troost-Ekong noted the progress made under the new management of Eric Chelle.
"I think we saw that in the last game, but now that is all done, that's in the past, and we have to show that again tomorrow in the next game," he added.
The Super Eagles revived their 2026 World Cup aspirations with a convincing 2-0 victory over Rwanda last Friday, thanks to a brace from Victor Osimhen, marking their first win in the qualifying campaign after five matches.
