Nottingham Forest, Newcastle and West Ham United in race to sign Africa's best player
Published: March 29, 2025
Nottingham Forest are reportedly among three Premier League clubs interest in signing reigning African Footballer of the Year, Ademola Lookman in the summer transfer window.
Football Insider claims that a Premier League return could be on the cards for the former Everton, Leicester City and Fulham man, with Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United battling for his services.
As per the report, West Ham United are also interested in signing the Atalanta forward, making them the third Premier League club in the mix.
However, the Hammers are lagging behind in the race for the services of the homegrown player due to their inability to offer him Champions League football next season.
It has been suggested that Nottingham Forest, currently third in the Premier League table with nine games remaining, will have to break their transfer record to sign Lookman, more than the £35million paid to Newcastle for midfielder Elliott Anderson.
The Nigerian's ability to play on either flank, as a center forward, or as a playmaker—demonstrated in recent World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Rwanda—makes him a versatile option for Nottingham Forest if the deal goes through.
After clashing with Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini over a missed penalty during the second half of the Champions League match against Club Brugge last month, the Charlton Athletic academy graduate has made it clear that leaving the 2024 Europa League winners this summer is his top priority.
Since landing at the Bergamo club from RB Leipzig in August 2022, Lookman has scored 50 goals in 110 matches across all competitions.
