Hakimi is runaway favourite: Morocco star battles Moses Simon, 10 others for Marc-Vivien Foe Prize
Published: April 02, 2025
Nigeria international Moses Simon has been nominated for the Marc-Vivien Foe Prize, awarded to the best African player in Ligue 1 for the 2024--2025 season.
The winner will succeed Gabonese forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who won the award in 2024 while wearing the colours of Olympique de Marseille.
Runner-up last year, Morocco fullback Achraf Hakimi is the runaway favourite to win for this edition as the PSG assistant captain is enjoying an exceptional season and aiming for a fourth consecutive French Ligue 1 title.
Having played for Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, and Inter Milan, Hakimi has been nominated for the Foé Award for the fourth time.
With 17 goal contributions from 38 all-competition appearances, he is arguably the best right fullback in the world at the moment.
The ten other nominees for the award are Himad Abdelli (Algeria, Angers), Eliesse Ben Seghir (Morocco, Monaco), Lamine Camara (Senegal, Monaco), Habib Diarra (Senegal, RC Strasbourg), Yahia Fofana (Ivory Coast, Angers), Amine Gouiri(Algeria, Rennes-Olympique de Marseille), Evann Guessand (Ivory Coast, OGC Nice), Moussa Niakhaté (Senegal, Lyon), Abdoulaye Touré (Guinea, Le Havre) and Hamed Junior Traoré (Ivory Coast, AJ Auxerre)
Moses Simon has been a key player for Nantes this season, registering fifteen goal involvements in twenty-five Ligue 1 games and showcasing his versatility by playing in various attacking roles.
On the international stage, the diminutive winger has been involved in all the matches played by the Super Eagles since the start of the season, bagging three assists.
Since 2011, the best African player in Ligue 1 trophy is named after Marc-Vivien Foé, to honour the Cameroonian player who tragically passed during a game at the Gerland stadium in Lyon on June 26 2003.
Former Lille players Victor Osimhen and Vincent Enyeama have won the award in the past.
