'It's time for me to react' - Valencia's Sadiq breaks silence on winning La Liga Goal of the Month
Published: April 05, 2025
Super Eagles striker Sadiq Umar has expressed his delight after receiving the La Liga Goal of the Month award for March, following his stunning strike for Valencia against Osasuna.
The Nigerian forward, who joined Valencia during the winter transfer window after a difficult spell at Real Sociedad, earned the prestigious accolade for his sensational back-heel goal that rescued a point for his side in a dramatic 3-3 draw at El Sadar.
In a video shared by La Liga on social media, Sadiq admitted he had high hopes of winning the award, describing the goal as one of the best in his career.
"Thank you so much for voting me for the Goal of the Month, it's time for me to react to my Goal of the Month. A good cross from Canos, I was trying to go to the second post then the defender blocked me," Sadiq said.
"Then I just saw the ball in my front, backheel, and I just went to celebrate. I am so excited about the goal.
"Crucial one point because we were losing 3-2 and this 88th minute goal gave us one point, I am so happy. Scoring this goal motivates you."
Asked if it's the best goal he has scored, he replied: "I would say one of the best".
The 28-year-old also shared his plans to preserve the award as part of his cherished achievements.
When asked if he would place the award in a special location, Sadiq responded, "Of course I will, it is from La Liga."
Since joining Valencia, Sadiq has rediscovered his form, scoring four goals in nine league appearances.
His performances have sparked conversations around his future, with reports suggesting that the Spanish club is interested in making his stay permanent ahead of next season.
With Valencia currently fighting to avoid relegation from La Liga, Sadiq’s resurgence could prove vital.
The forward will be hoping to maintain his fine form and help the club secure safety by the end of the campaign.
