German Onugkha: FC Copenhagen loanee who chose Nigeria over Russia named Superliga POTM
Published: April 07, 2025
Russian-born Nigerian striker German Onugkha has been recognized for his outstanding performances in March 2025, with the Divisionsforeningen naming him as the Danish Superliga Player of the Month, informs the official website of Vejle Boldklub.
Onugkha is eligible to represent his native Russia and Nigeria but has committed his international future to the three-time African champions.
The FC Copenhagen loanee was in red-hot form in March, scoring in four straight games as Vejle Boldklub picked up six points in matches last month.
Onugkha netted consolation goals in losses to Viborg FF and Nordsjaelland, and then netted a brace in a five-goal thriller against Aarhus GF, before a game-winning strike at Lyngby Boldklub.
His six-game scoring streak came to an end on Sunday when he fired blanks against Aalborg BK, with retired Nigeria national teamer and Newcastle United loan coordinator Shola Ameobi watching on from the stands at the Vejle Stadium.
German Onugkha edged out Viborg FF's Serginho and FC Copenhagen's Victor Froholdt to win the Player of the Month award.
Recognition keeps coming for the Nigerian striker as he earned a spot in the Team of the Round for matchday 23 and was also named in the Team of the Month for March.
Onugkha registered eight goals and an assist during his six-game scoring streak in the Danish Superliga.
