Sixtus Ogbuehi: Osasuna's Nigerian striker receives first-ever call-up for La Liga game
Published: April 13, 2025
Nigerian striker Sixtus Ogbuehi received his first-ever call-up for a La Liga game as Osasuna faced Catalan team Girona at El Sadar on Sunday afternoon.
Osasuna contacted allnigeriasoccer.com before kickoff, informing the website that Osasuna Promesas striker Sixtus Ogbuehi was replacing Ralúl García in the matchday squad, after García suffered a knock to his left eye during training yesterday.
Ogbuehi has to wait for his La Liga debut as he was unused substitute in the 2-1 win over Giorna.
He would have sported the number 36 on the back of his jersey had he been subbed in.
Aged 22, Ogbuehi joined Osasuna on loan from CD Eldense in the January transfer window, with a voluntary purchase option included in the deal.
Although he has yet to make his first team debut, his form for the Promesas side has not gone unnoticed by manager
Vicente Moreno, leading to his inclusion in the matchday squad for the visit of Girona.
In twelve league appearances for Osasuna B in the Primera Federación - Grupo I, Ogbuehi has tallied four goals and four assists.
Last season, he excelled in the Third Federation, scoring 18 goals, eight of them in the first half of the season with Moralo of Extremadura and 10 with Ceuta B, with whom he just missed out on the Second Federation.
Osasuna secured all three points with goals from Ante Budimir and Pablo Ibáñez, while Yáser Asprilla pulled one back for the visitors deep into stoppage time.
