'Best RB in the league'- Referee-turned-pundit warns Fenerbahce not to let Osayi-Samuel leave on a free
Published: April 14, 2025
Referee-turned-pundit, Ahmet Çakar has warned Fenerbahce to keep Bright Osayi-Samuel at all costs amid speculation linking the right back with a departure from the Istanbul giants in the summer transfer window.
The Nigeria international has entered the last three months of his contract with the Yellow Canaries and plans to conclude talks with the Super Lig giants at the end of the season.
Even though Osayi-Samuel has been linked with a move to Fenerbahce's bitter rivals, Galatasaray, he has insisted that there's nothing true about the rumours.
Cakar is urging Fenerbahce not to let the defender leave on a free transfer, especially to arch-rivals Galatasaray.
In quotes relayed by sokgazetesi, he said: "Fenerbahce would be stupid if they left Osayi-Samuel to Galatasaray.
"In my opinion, he is the best right-back in the league right now. If he were Turkish, he would play as a bench player in the national team".
Çakar highlighted Osayi-Samuel’s value by drawing comparisons to Galatasaray's current options at right-back, including Hungary international Attila Szalai.
"Szalai played in that position for Galatasaray in their last match, and Osayi-Samuel contributes three to four times more than him. The difference in quality is clear."
Osayi-Samuel joined Fenerbahce in January 2021, and has since made 172 appearances for the Istanbul club, recording seven goals and fifteen assists.
On the international stage, he was a member of the Super Eagles squad that finished second in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, where he played five matches.
