Eintracht Frankfurt's German-Nigerian CB reveals which country he plans to represent at 2026 World Cup
Published: April 17, 2025
Versatile Eintracht Frankfurt center-back Nnamdi Collins has revealed the nation he intends to represent at the 2026 World Cup.
Born in Düsseldorf, Collins is eligible to play for the Super Eagles through his family, but he is aiming to represent four-time world champions Germany at next year's tournament, which will be held in Mexico, the United States and Canada.
It has been a breakthrough campaign for Collins at Eintracht Frankfurt, where he has contributed to the club's Europa League quarterfinal qualification and their strong position in the Bundesliga, third with five games left.
The former Borussia Dortmund youth teamer has recorded twenty-eight appearances in all competitions this term and scored his first senior goal as Eintracht Frankfurt thrashed Noah Atubolu's SC Freiburg 4-1 back in January.
Collins, Atubolu and Werder Bremen forward Justin Njinmah are three Nigeria-eligible players that Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann is monitoring ahead of the start of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
A Germany U21 international, Collins revealed that no discussions have taken place with senior national team coach Julian Nagelsmann yet.
"There hasn't been a discussion with Julian Nagelsmann yet. But it would be a lie if I said I'm not interested in the 2026 World Cup," Collins was quoted as saying by MSN.
"As I've emphasized, I always set ambitious goals for myself. At the moment, however, several other things are playing a major role for me. "
Collins added that he is focused on performing well with Eintracht Frankfurt and Germany's U21 team.
"My full focus is on being successful with Eintracht and the U21 team; everything else will hopefully follow in the future. I'm patient and will continue to work hard."
