After missing nine games in a row, Tino Anjorin training individually ahead of Empoli v Venezia
Published: April 18, 2025
Former Chelsea midfielder Faustino Anjorin remains a doubt for Empoli's league clash against Venezia on Sunday as he continues to recover from a thigh injury.
Anjorin, who joined the Italian outfit last summer, has been a bright spot in an otherwise challenging season for Empoli.
The 23-year-old has made 17 league appearances and contributed three assists, impressing with his versatility across midfield.
However, the youngster has been sidelined since February with a thigh injury, causing him to miss nine consecutive matches in the Italian top-flight.Â
His absence has coincided with a dip in form for the club, who are yet to secure a victory in the nine matches he has missed—losing six and drawing three against Cagliari, Como, and Genoa.
According to Italian outlet fantamaster.it, Anjorin remains a doubt for the crucial weekend fixture against Venezia, having only resumed light individual training.
However, despite his previous involvement with England at youth levels, Anjorin remains eligible to represent Nigeria at senior level, as he has yet to earn a cap with the Three Lions.
Anjorin will be eager to return from injury and continue his impressive performances to catch the attention of Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle, with hopes of earning a call-up ahead of the Unity Cup and the upcoming 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers.
Meanwhile, Empoli would be hoping for his swift recovery as they aim to turn their season around in the final stretch.
