One more to go: Osimhen edges closer to equaling personal best after scoring in Turkish Cup
Published: April 22, 2025
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen was on the scoresheet once again as Galatasaray claimed a 5-1 win over Konyaspor on Tuesday night to secure a place in the final of the Turkish Cup.
Osimhen, who has been in scintillating form this season, broke the deadlock for the Yellow-Reds in the 26th minute. Lucas Torreira added a second shortly before halftime to seal a convincing victory for the Istanbul giants.
The Nigerian international calmly nodded the ball past the goalkeeper after a delightful cross from former Napoli teammate Dries Mertens.
Osimhen's latest strike took his tally for the season to an impressive 30 goals, along with six assists, in 35 appearances across all competitions.
The Nigerian forward’s latest goal leaves him just one short of his all-time single-season scoring record.
Osimhen’s highest goal tally in a single campaign came in 2022–2023, when he scored 31 times for Napoli.
His stellar performances have not gone unnoticed, with top European sides including Manchester United, Juventus and Chelsea reportedly monitoring the Super Eagles star ahead of the summer transfer window.
As transfer speculation swirls, Osimhen remains focused on helping Galatasaray secure a domestic double, with the league title and Turkish Cup within reach.
Meanwhile, Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle will be encouraged by Osimhen's form as Nigeria prepares for the upcoming Unity Cup tournament and the resumption of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Osimhen's form is crucial as Nigeria look to revive their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification hopes following a disappointing start to the campaign.
