'Not just goals' - Valencia sporting director highlights Sadiq is delivering on all fronts
Published: April 23, 2025
Valencia sporting director, Miguel Ángel Corona, has shared insights into the club's current situation and the future of Nigerian striker Umar Sadiq, who has been impressing fans with his recent form.
Speaking to Movistar+, Corona expressed his satisfaction with Sadiq's contributions but emphasized caution regarding his future.
"First, we want to confirm our objective. We're very happy with Sadiq. His numbers speak for themselves," Corona was quoted as saying by Estadio Deportivo.
"He's contributed a lot, not just in terms of goals, but also in the work he brings to the team, like all his teammates."
He acknowledged that Sadiq’s work ethic and his ability to impact games have been crucial for the team, reinforcing the importance of his contributions beyond just scoring goals.
Sadiq, who is currently on loan from Real Sociedad, has become a key player for Valencia in recent months.
However, the club's future decision on him remains uncertain. The Nigerian forward has impressed the fans, who are already envisioning him as a long-term figure in Valencia's attack.
However, Corona remained cautious, noting that while Sadiq’s performances have been exemplary, the club must first secure its immediate goals before making decisions about future transfers.
"We cannot focus too much on things beyond our control right now. Our priority is to ensure we reach our goal, which is to secure enough points to reach safety.
"Anything other than focusing on our next matches and achieving that objective would be misplaced," Corona remarked, referencing the club's ambitions of maintaining their La Liga status.
Valencia currently sit four points behind eighth place in the standings after their recent draw against Espanyol, with several teams still to play.
While European competition remains a distant prospect, Corona stressed the importance of keeping focus on securing the necessary points to stay up in the league.
