West Brom expected to part ways with 41-cap Nigeria international with Arsenal ties this summer
Published: April 23, 2025
Championship club West Brom are reportedly planning to part ways with former Arsenal youth team skipper Semi Ajayi at the end of the 2024-2025 season.
The 41-cap Nigeria international has roughly two months left on his contract with the Baggies, whom he joined from Rotherham United in 2019.
According to Darren Witcoop, Ajayi, alongside out-of-contract pair Grady Diangana and John Swift, is set to depart West Brom this summer.
Ajayi could have played his last game for West Brom, with the defender still out due to a hamstring injury picked up in the first half against Oxford United back in February.
The injury kept the former Arsenal youth player out of the squads for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda's Wasps and Zimbabwe's Warriors in March.
Injuries have not been kind to him this season, with the experienced centre-back missing twenty-nine games in the Championship plus Cup matches against Fleetwood Town and Bournemouth.
Since his arrival at West Brom, Ajayi has 13 goals and 3 assists in 176 all-competition appearances.
Ajayi kicked off his career at Charlton Athletic, landing a pro deal in January 2012 after working his way up through the academy at The Valley.
Apart from the aforementioned teams, he has worn the colours of Dartford, Cardiff City, AFC Wimbledon and Crewe Alexandra.
On the international stage, he was a key member of the Nigeria side that reached the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, going the distance in seven matches during the tournament in Ivory Coast.
