'Very important name' – Galatasaray eye veteran star who could make fans forget Man Utd-linked Osimhen
Published: April 23, 2025
Galatasaray are reportedly closing in on the signing of a veteran midfielder, described as a ‘very important name,’ who could fill the void left by the likely departure of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen.
Football commentator Ertem Sener shared details of the potential transfer in remarks published by habersarikirmizi.com, saying the unnamed player would serve as a ‘championship gift’ to manager Okan Buruk.
Osimhen, 26, has enjoyed a sensational season on loan from Napoli, registering 30 goals in 35 appearances across all competitions for Galatasaray.
His explosive performances have drawn interest from Europe’s elite, with Manchester United, Arsenal, and Real Madrid all reportedly monitoring his situation.
"Victor Osimhen is almost certain to leave Galatasaray. They say Manchester United and Arsenal, but it could also be Real Madrid. I see a high probability of him going to England,” Sener said.
"Victor Osimhen wants to go. He will leave with tears. Galatasaray will get a big star who will make us forget Osimhen.”
Sener did not name the incoming player but offered clues about his profile: "He is a very important name. It is said that the transfer is very likely to happen. This will be a championship gift to Okan Buruk.
"This name is a midfielder. He is over 30 but his appearance is under 30. The star I am talking about is not Kolo Muani, Bernardo Silva, Dybala, Vlahovic. Mauro Icardi is working hard in Argentina."
Osimhen's departure would mark a significant shift for Galatasaray, who have relied heavily on the Super Eagles forward throughout the current campaign.
His clinical finishing, intelligent movement, and physical presence have made him a fan favourite and a key figure in the club’s push for domestic success.
While the identity of the incoming player remains under wraps, the club's ambition is clear.
Galatasaray are targeting an experienced, world-class figure capable of leading the team as they prepare for a new season with European competition in sight.
If completed, the deal would not only help cushion the loss of Osimhen but also signal Galatasaray’s intent to remain competitive at the highest level.
