No action for Dele-Bashiru: Super Eagles star benched amid fitness fears as Lazio beat Genoa
Published: April 23, 2025
Super Eagles midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru was an unused substitute as Lazio secured a 2-0 victory over Genoa on Wednesday night at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium.
The situation has further sparked concerns over the fitness and availability of the Nigerian International for the subsequent games for the Biancocelesti.
Dele-Bashiru, who joined Lazio in the summer, is gradually reintegrating back into the team after recovering from an ankle injury that kept him out of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe in March.
Since his return from injury, the Nigerian International has featured in three league games against Torino, Atalanta, and AS Roma, starting against Atalanta and Roma.
The Manchester City academy product didn't train with the group ahead of the clash against Genoa at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium.
He wasn't at his best and trained alone on Tuesday after missing training on Easter Sunday.
Despite the absence of the Nigerian, Lazio defeated their host thanks to goals from Valentín Castellanos in the first half and Boulaye Dia in the second half.
As the season comes to an end, Dele-Bashiru will hope to return to full fitness soon and help Lazio secure a place in the UEFA Champions League.
