Scottish Premiership club St Johnstone have taken Nigeria U20 international Nathaniel Nwosu on trial, with a view to a possible transfer.

The Water FC Academy, Abuja product is age-eligible to repreent the Flying Eagles at the upcoming 2025 Africa U20 Cup of Nations but the 2006-born player has been omitted from the squad list for the tournament in Egypt.

According to The Courier, St Johnstone have given a trial to giant Nigerian goalkeeper, Nathaniel Nwosu.

The 19-year-old trained with English clubs Nottingham Forest and Stoke City before starting a trial at St Johnstone.

Nwosu arrived in Scotland earlier this month, signing a short-term deal with junior side Tayport before heading south just days later to train with the Potters.

He trained with the Saints on Tuesday and was expected to participate in Wednesday's training session.

Nwosu began his football journey at Water FC as a left-back at the age of six, but made the switch to goalkeeping when he turned eleven.

The fullback-turned-goalkeeper was part of the Flying Eagles squad for the 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup in Argentina, serving as backup to Chijioke Aniagboso.

Former Super Eagles defender Efe Ambrose, Oludare Olufunwa and Viv Solomon-Otabor have played for St Johnstone in the past, while 2014 Nigeria U23 invitee Uche Ikpeazu is currently on the books of the club.
