Son of ex-Gombe United star scores again for Chelsea youth, has new deal in place for next season
Published: April 26, 2025
Chizaram Ezenwata, son of former Gombe United player Ndubuisi Ezenwata, took his tally for the season to 12 goals for Chelsea U18s as they defeated Norwich City 5-1 in their last home game of the U18 Premier League on Saturday afternoon at Cobham Training Centre in Surrey.
Since the start of the season, Ezenwata has played at a higher age level, and the match against the Canaries took his total appearances to 23 across the U18 Premier League, FA Youth Cup and Premier League 2.
Now in his final season as a schoolboy, he has already agreed a scholarship deal with the Blues ahead of the start of the 2025-2026 campaign.
Against Norwich City, Ezenwata opened the scoring in the ninth minute, dusting himself down to convert the resulting spot kick after he was fouled by the goalkeeper, but Finn Corke restored parity five minutes later.
Chelsea's other scorers were Walter Nutter, Reggie Walsh and Sol Gordon (2), with Ezenwata providing the assist for Chelsea's third goal.
Gordon completed the scoring deep into stoppage time, capitalizing on a chested assist from Nigerian defender Tayo Subuloye.
Ezenwata scored in five consecutive U18 Premier League games between January 25 and March 11, including braces against Brighton & Hove and Arsenal.
On the international stage, the centre-forward, who is also eligible for Cameroon through his mother, netted twice on his competitive debut for England's Young Lions in a European U17 Championship qualifier against Mallta in October 2024.
