Dessers moves within one goal of 25-goal target after scoring in Rangers draw against St. Mirren
Published: April 26, 2025
Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers was on target as Rangers were held to a 2-2 draw against St. Mirren at the Paisley 2021 Stadium on Saturday evening.
The result ended a difficult run for Rangers against St. Mirren, having lost their previous two encounters against the Saints.
Dessers opened the scoring for the visitors three minutes before halftime. Receiving a precise pass from Nicolas Raskin, the Nigerian international showed great strength to shrug off a defender before calmly slotting the ball into the net.
The goal marked an important milestone for Dessers, bringing him closer to achieving his personal ambition for the season.
The 30-year-old has now scored 24 goals and provided 7 assists in 51 appearances across all competitions—just one goal shy of the 25-goal target he set earlier in the season.
Allnigeriasoccer.com had earlier reported that during his pre-match press conference, Dessers expressed his determination to reach and surpass his personal best, setting a goal of 25 or more for the campaign.
While Saturday’s result had no bearing on the Scottish Premiership title race—already clinched by Celtic following their 5-0 win over Dundee United—the strike carries significant personal meaning for the Nigeria international.
With a few games remaining before the end of the season, Dessers will be eager to hit and exceed his target as he continues to shine in Scotland.
