'Buzzing for him' - Newcastle defender really happy for Nigerian forward after first Premier League goal
Published: April 26, 2025
Newcastle United defender Dan Burn has showered praise on young Nigeria-eligible forward William Osula after the 21-year-old scored his first Premier League goal in Newcastle’s commanding 3-0 victory over Ipswich Town at St. James' Park on Saturday evening.
Osula, who joined the Magpies from Sheffield United during the summer transfer window, capped off the win by heading home the third goal, effectively sealing Ipswich’s relegation back to the Championship.
Introduced in the second half as a substitute for Harvey Barnes, Osula made an immediate impact, rising highest to power in a header from Kieran Trippier’s pinpoint cross.
The memorable strike earned plaudits from teammates, with Dan Burn highlighting Osula’s perseverance and positive attitude.
In quotes relayed by the BBC after the match, the England international said: "Buzzing for him. He’s waited a long time for his opportunity. He’s young, still learning, learning how we play, but great header. Not sure if he meant it, but really happy for him."
Since arriving at Newcastle, Osula has steadily integrated into the senior squad, making 17 appearances across all competitions, scoring twice and providing two assists.
Born in Denmark, Osula has represented the Scandinavian nation at U19 and U21 levels but remains eligible to play for the Super Eagles.
With his first Premier League goal secured, Osula will look to build on this momentum and continue his development under Eddie Howe’s guidance.
