'Amazing to see' – Iwobi praises Saka's rise from hardworking teen to Arsenal's main man
Published: April 26, 2025
Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has spoken glowingly about Bukayo Saka’s incredible development at Arsenal, describing his former teammate as a 'humble' and 'hardworking' player whose growth has been amazing to witness.
Speaking to UEFA's YouTube channel, Iwobi reflected on how much Arsenal has changed since his own time at the Emirates, noting that few of his former teammates remain in the current squad.
Among the notable exceptions is Saka, who made his senior debut for Arsenal when he came on as a substitute for Iwobi several years ago.
"It’s nice to see because he’s such a humble guy, he’s always been hardworking," Iwobi said.
"There are so many talented players at Arsenal, but he was the one who would just work hard and get on with it. It’s amazing to see how he’s blossomed into the player he is and the man he is."
Since Iwobi’s departure, Saka has evolved into one of Arsenal’s key figures, becoming arguably the club’s most important player.
His numbers highlight his consistent improvement: from six goal contributions in the 2019-2020 Premier League season to 26 in 2022-2023 and 28 in 2023-2024.
So far this season, Saka has already registered 17 goal contributions in the top-flight, continuing to underline his importance to Mikel Arteta’s side.
Iwobi, now playing for Fulham, remains a keen admirer of the Arsenal academy graduate and takes pride in seeing the Hale End product reach world-class levels.
The Super Eagles star's comments come at a time when Arsenal are aiming to secure major silverware, with Saka pivotal to their push for the UEFA Champions League.
