Assist not enough: Ajax loanee Akpom rated below Jonathan David as Lille win at Angers

Ajax loanee Chuba Akpom was rated below Jonathan David as Lille secured a hard-fought 2-0 victory away to Angers on Sunday afternoon, despite the forward providing an assist during the match.

Akpom, currently on loan at Lille from Ajax, created one of his side's goals but still found himself rated slightly lower than his attacking teammate. 

According to statistics from WhoScored, Akpom earned a rating of 7.11, while David was awarded 7.22. 

The Sofascore platform reflected a similar trend, giving Akpom a 7.0 compared to David’s 7.3.

The match saw Lille dominate possession for long spells, but Angers proved stubborn opposition. 

Akpom operated with intelligence in the final third, linking play effectively and showing good awareness to set up one of Lille’s goals. 

However, David’s greater involvement in key attacking moves and sharper goal threat earned him a slightly higher rating from the major statistical platforms.

Although Akpom’s performance was praised for its quality and selflessness, both WhoScored and Sofascore judged David to have delivered the slightly more effective display. 

For Akpom, the afternoon still showcased his growing influence in Lille’s forward line, even if the final ratings suggested he played second fiddle to his teammate.
