History made: Galatasaray striker Osimhen takes tally to 33 goals in record-breaking season
Published: May 03, 2025
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen broke his personal record for goals in a single season after scoring a brace for Galatasaray in their 4–1 rout of Sivasspor, taking his tally to 33 goals.
The former African Footballer of the Year’s previous personal record was set during the 2022–2023 season when he scored 31 goals in 39 matches across all competitions for Napoli.
The 26-year-old is now second on the Galatasaray's all-time single-season scoring chart and just one goal shy of matching Brazilian icon Mario Jardel’s record of 34 goals set in the 2000–01 campaign.
Osimhen’s blistering form has already seen him eclipse the tallies of former Galatasaray stars Mauro Icardi and Bafétimbi Gomis, who each scored 32 goals in a single season.
His explosive pace, strength, and clinical finishing have transformed him into a fan favourite at Rams Park and a nightmare for Süper Lig defenders.
In Saturday’s 4-1 victory over Sivasspor, Osimhen continued his remarkable run, scoring twice to further close in on Jardel’s long-standing record.
He found the back of the net twice, with his first goal coming in the 15th minute and his second in the 31st.
His performance helped Galatasaray maintain their push for the league title and put him just two goals away from breaking the club’s foreign player scoring record for a single season.
Since his arrival earlier in the season, Osimhen has been instrumental in Galatasaray’s title chase.
His consistency in front of goal has garnered praise from pundits and supporters alike, many of whom view him as one of the club’s most impactful signing in recent memory.
With just a few matches left in the campaign, Osimhen stands on the brink of breaking Jardel’s long-standing record — a feat that would also make him the highest-scoring foreign player in a single season in both Galatasaray and Turkish Süper Lig history.
The Nigerian international’s exploits have further cemented his reputation as one of Africa’s premier forwards.
As Galatasaray aim to close out the season with silverware, fans will be hoping Osimhen can etch his name permanently into the club’s storied history books by surpassing the legendary milestone.
