'It was important to break my record' - Galatasaray star Osimhen reacts after brace v Sivasspor
Published: May 03, 2025
Victor Osimhen has described his record-breaking season at Galatasaray as one he will never forget.
Against Sivasspor at the Ali Sami Yen Spor Kompleksi RAMS Park on Saturday evening, the Napoli loanee surpassed his personal best by reaching 33 goals in all competitions, including 24 in the Turkish Super Lig.
Prior to his loan switch to Galatasaray in September 2024, Osimhen's highest single-season goal tally stood at 31, achieved with Napoli during the 2022–2023 campaign.
Speaking to the match broadcaster, Osimhen expressed gratitude to those around him and described Galatasaray as the biggest club in Turkey, ahead of the likes of Fenerbahce, Besiktas and Trabzonspor.
"It was important to break my record in my first season. I am at one of the most important clubs in the world," the number 45 was quoted as saying by Galatasaray's official website.
"The biggest club in Turkiye. I would like to thank my family and friends for helping me. I would like to thank the technical team and the club staff.
"They never left me alone. This season is a memory that I will remember for the rest of my life."
Osimhen has praised his Galatasaray teammates and emphasized that beyond goals and assists, his priority is the team's success.
The Nigeria international has directly participated in 41 goals (33 goals, 8 assists) from 37 appearances across all competitions.
"Apart from goals and assists, I like to help the team. I want to get the ball in the future, help the midfield, do my best for the team.
"The team comes first for me. When I convert opportunities into goals, it makes me happy. The important thing is not Victor Osimhen, but the team.
"Roland is also very important. We can say the same thing for Mario, Torreira and Sanchez."
Galatasaray are keen to retain the services of Osimhen for next season but are likely to be priced out of a move, with Napoli valuing the centre-forward at 75 million euros.
