Tyrique George: Nigeria, England, another African powerhouse in the mix for Chelsea Academy POTY
Published: May 06, 2025
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that another African powerhouse, Ghana, has entered the race to secure the international future of Chelsea Academy Player of the Season, Tyrique George.
In addition to being eligible for Nigeria and England, the highly-rated forward also qualifies to represent four-time African champions Ghana through his mother.
George, born in London, is eligible for the Super Eagles via his Nigerian father.
The English Football Association is currently believed to be in pole position to retain the services of the 19-year-old, who is provisionally cap-tied to England and currently features for their U19 side.
A promotion to the U20 squad is expected soon, although the FA may fast-track him to the U21s, similar to Arsenal prodigy Ethan Nwaneri.
Sources confirm that Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle has not yet made contact with George over a potential switch to the Super Eagles.
George is represented by the same Nigerian agent as Super Eagles players Ola Aina, Alex Iwobi, Joe Aribo, Josh Maja and Terem Moffi.
So far this season, he has recorded six goal contributions in 22 appearances for Chelsea's first team.
Notably, three members of Nigeria’s current senior squad—Ademola Lookman, Iwobi, and Aina—also played for England at youth level before switching allegiances to the Super Eagles.
