Jimoh-Aloba: Midfielder with three senior appearances inspires Aston Villa to win FA Youth Cup
Published: May 06, 2025
England U18 international of Nigerian descent Jamaldeen Jimoh-Aloba was the standout performer on Monday evening as Aston Villa came from behind to beat Manchester City 3-1 at Villa Park in the FA Youth Cup final.
Aston Villa made an awful start to the game as Matty Warhurst put Manchester City in front inside two minutes after a poor clearance from Sam Proctor.
Within 90 seconds, Aston Villa equalized as TJ Carroll flicked the ball into an empty net following a corner whipped to the near post by Jimoh-Aloba.
Just past the half-hour mark, a magnificent finish from Cole Brannigan with the outside of his left boot gave Aston Villa a 2-1 lead.
Aston Villa extended their lead in the 65th minute when Jimoh-Aloba drilled the ball brilliantly into the near post, beating the Manchester City goalkeeper and giving the home team a two-goal advantage.
Aston Villa have now lifted the FA Youth Cup five times in their history, after previously winning the competition in
1972, 1980, 2002 and 2021.
Jimoh-Aloba received twelve call-ups for first-team games this season and went on to feature in three of them, albeit as a substitute, including debuts in the Premier League and FA Cup.
The 18-year-old scored ten goals for Aston Villa's youth teams this term.
