'85 million people in Turkiye ask me the same question' - Galatasaray president on Osimhen's future
Published: May 07, 2025
Galatasaray president Dursun Ozbek has responded to mounting speculation linking Victor Osimhen with a permanent move to the Turkish Super Lig giants.
After unsuccessful deadline day moves to Premier League giants Chelsea and Saudi club Al-Ahli, the Nigeria international joined Galatasaray on loan for the remainder of the 2024–2025 season.
Osimhen has cemented his reputation as one of the world's elite centre-forwards, scoring 33 goals and providing 8 assists to set a new personal record for goals and assists in a single season.
Although Galatasaray are eager to sign him permanently at the end of the season, they face a stumbling block with his parent club, Napoli, valuing the Nigerian at €75 million.
Speaking at the event held for the Galatasaray Fuzul team, which became champions in the Wheelchair Basketball Super League and IWBF EuroCup 1 in Istanbul, Ozbek gave a remarkable answer to the question of whether Osimhen will be acquired from Napoli.
In quotes relayed by beIN SPORTS, he stated: "85 million people in Turkiye come to me with the same question. We are in a race right now, the race in football is not over. Transfers are at the beginning of June."
The Galatasaray chief made it clear that transfer discussions are on hold as the team prioritizes on-pitch success.
"Nobody should think about who to buy or sell. We are focused on the field. We have 5 matches ahead of us. We are working to win all 5 matches and make our fans happy.
"There is no transfer on our agenda right now. We will share our thoughts when the time comes."
With four games remaining in the Super Lig season, Galatasaray sit atop the table with 83 points, eight ahead of their closest rivals, Fenerbahce, and have secured a place in the Turkish Cup final.
