Leicester City Goal of the Month: Italian-born centre-back on Eric Chelle's radar nominated
Published: May 08, 2025
Leicester City have revealed the shortlist for the club's Goal of the Month for April, with Italian-born central defender of Nigerian descent Caleb Okoli making the cut.
The latest Goal of the Month competition features entries from Leicester City's first team, LCFC Women, and development squad
Vicenza native Okoli is among the dual-national players being monitored by Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle ahead of the resumption of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Okoli's strike for the Foxes in a 2-2 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion on April 12 has been nominated for the Goal of the Month accolade.
With sixteen minutes left on the clock, he powered home a crucial header to level the score at the Amex Stadium, following a cross from Bilal El Khannouss.
It was his first-ever goal for the Foxes in the Premier League, and it came in his 18th appearance in the division.
His goal against the Seagulls is in the running for the monthly accolade alongside strikes from Stephy Mavididi, Yuka Momiki, Sammy Braybrooke and Jake Evans.
Okoli has been provisionally cap-tied to his country of birth, Italy since November 2019, after making his competitive debut for the youth team in a European Championship qualifier against Malta.
With the exception of the March internationals, he has been included in all of Italy's senior national team squads since the start of the 2024-2025 season.
