Dutch-born Feyenoord product pulls out of Super Eagles squad for Unity Cup after suffering injury

Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report with certainty that Feyenoord youth product Hamdi Akujobi will not make his international debut for the Super Eagles this month.

Born in Rotterdam, Netherlands, Hamdi is eligible to play for the Super Eagles through his father, Chika Akujobi, who is originally from Owerri, Imo State and previously looked after Kenneth Omeruo during the centre-back's time at Chelsea.

The Almere City fullback has opted to represent Nigeria at international level and attended a Flying Eagles training camp before the 2019 Fifa U20 World Cup in Poland, but missed out on the traveling squad to Poland.

Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle included Akujobi in his provisional squad for the Unity Cup, which begins on Tuesday, May 27, with Trinidad and Tobago facing Jamaica, followed by two-time winners Nigeria taking on regional rivals Ghana the next day.

However, the 25-year-old will not be travelling to the English capital this month due to injury.

Akujobi was forced to pull out of the provisional squad after suffering a knee injury during Almere City's 2-1 loss to his former employers Heerenveen on April 19.

The defender is set to undergo surgery and will not take part in Almere City's final three games of the season.

This season, he featured in twenty-eight matches in the Dutch Eredivisie, registering one goal while providing an assist.
