Josh Maja: Super Eagles striker capped by Gernot Rohr wins major West Brom award
Published: May 08, 2025
With a statement on the official website, Championship outfit West Brom have confirmed that Nigeria international Josh Maja has won the Men's 2024/25 Top Goalscorer award.
Maja winning the award is remarkable, considering he was only available for selection during the first half of the campaign.
A lower leg injury that required surgery sidelined Maja for the rest of the campaign after he suffered it in January.
The 26-year-old tallied 12 goals in 26 appearances across all competitions, logging 2,077 minutes.
His standout performance came on the opening day of the season, bagging a hat-trick as West Brom defeated Queens Park Rangers.
Maja went on to score in three consecutive away matches, at Stoke City, Portsmouth and Sheffield Wednesday.
Of his total goals, eight were scored in away fixtures, while four were netted at home, highlighted by a New Year’s Day double in the 3-1 victory against Preston North End.
Born in the English capital, London, Maja has one cap for the Super Eagles, making his senior debut in an international friendly against Ukraine, with Bordeaux legend Gernot Rohr in the Nigeria dugout.
Since then, the Sunderland Academy graduate has not featured for the Super Eagles and remains eligible for England, having not played any competitive matches for the three-time African champions.
