Achilles worry for Atalanta's main man: Lookman faces fitness test before Roma showdown
Published: May 09, 2025
Italian Serie A side Atalanta are facing a nervous wait over the fitness of their star forward Ademola Lookman ahead of their high-stakes clash against AS Roma at the Gewiss Stadium on Monday.
Lookman, who recently ended a six-game goal drought with a strike against Monza, missed group training on Friday due to inflammation in his right Achilles tendon.
According to an Italian media outlet, Tuttomercatoweb, the 27-year-old trained individually and will undergo a fitness assessment during Saturday's session to determine his availability for the match.
The Nigerian international had failed to find the net in previous outings against Inter Milan, Fiorentina, Lazio, AC Milan, Bologna, and Lecce, but his overall contribution this season remains vital.
Lookman has registered 19 goals and 7 assists in 38 appearances across all competitions, underlining his importance in Atalanta's push for a UEFA Champions League spot.
With just five points separating Atalanta and Roma in the league standings, Lookman's potential absence could be a major blow for Gian Piero Gasperini's side.
The club will be hoping for a positive update as they aim to tighten their grip on a top-four finish.
