FIFA has officially approved The Unity Cup 2025 as a Tier-1 international tournament, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) announced on Friday evening via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle.
The football governing body emphasized that all matches must strictly adhere to the Laws of the Game, as the competition carries full international status.
The NFF stated: "The Unity Cup 2025 gets FIFA approval. Football governing body Reminds all teams that the Laws of the Game must strictly be applied for these tier-1 matches."
The four-nation tournament will take place at the Gtech Community Stadium in London, home of Premier League side Brentford FC.
Nigeria, Ghana, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago are set to compete in what is expected to be a high-profile football event.
Under the leadership of newly appointed head coach Eric Chelle, the Super Eagles of Nigeria will begin their Unity Cup campaign against arch-rivals Ghana on Wednesday, May 28.
The tournament serves as a key opportunity for participating nations to prepare for upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers and continental competitions.
With FIFA’s endorsement, matches will contribute to the FIFA World Rankings and be officiated by referees meeting international standards.
Coach Chelle is expected to use the tournament to assess new talents and strengthen team cohesion as Nigeria aims for a strong comeback on the global stage.
