'It does help' - Rangers starlet namechecks Leon Balogun for key mentorship role at Ibrox
Published: May 10, 2025
Rangers teenage prospect Bailey Rice has praised veteran defender Leon Balogun for his instrumental role in guiding the next generation at Ibrox, highlighting the Nigerian's leadership on and off the pitch.
Balogun has been a consistent performer for Rangers this season, making 27 appearances across all competitions.
Beyond his contributions in defence, the Nigerian defender, who has registered a goal and an assist, has been commended for his mentorship, particularly in supporting young talents like Rice.
Speaking during a pre-match press conference ahead of Rangers' clash with Aberdeen, Rice shared how Balogun, alongside captain James Tavernier and midfielder Nico Raskin, has helped shape his development.
"Experienced guys like James Tavernier have been brilliant with me, and Leon (Balogun) and Nico (Raskin) as well, giving me little insights in the game and it does help," said Rice, according to Rangers official website.
Balogun's contract is set to expire at the end of the campaign, casting doubt over his future with the Scottish Premiership club.
Despite the uncertainty, the Nigerian international will stay focused on helping Rangers win their remaining matches and on supporting the younger players as the season comes to a close.
With just a few matches remaining, Balogun will hope to continue his impact in the dressing room, as he looks to leave a lasting legacy at Ibrox—whether or not he remains with the club next season.
