Valencia coach confirms only one clause ever influenced his decision not to select Umar Sadiq
Published: May 13, 2025
Valencia coach Carlos Corberán has revealed that the only clause which ever prevented him from selecting Nigerian striker Sadiq Umar was related to facing his parent club, despite the forward's impressive performances.
Sadiq, who joined Valencia on loan from Real Sociedad during the January transfer window, has revived his form at the Mestalla.
After a difficult first half of the season in San Sebastián, the 28-year-old forward has scored five goals in 13 La Liga appearances, playing a key role in Valencia's push for European qualification.
However, Sadiq has seen limited minutes in Valencia's last two matches, totaling just 17 minutes across games against UD Las Palmas and Getafe.
The reduced involvement sparked speculation among fans and media alike, with many questioning whether a clause in his loan deal was restricting his use.
Addressing the rumours ahead of Valencia's clash with Deportivo Alavés, Corberán dismissed the claims.
He confirmed that the only match affected by a contractual clause was the one against Real Sociedad, his parent club.
"There is no clause that could affect my decision to pick a player," Corberán told Valencia's official webpage.
"The only one like that was for the Real Sociedad game, and I already said that if he were available, he would have played. He has total availability to start or finish a game."
Sadiq will be hoping for more minutes against Alavés as he looks to reaffirm his place in the squad.
With just a few games remaining this season, he will be eager to maintain his strong form and help guide Valencia back into European competition.
