'Very weak defence' - Pundit explains why Galatasaray striker Osimhen should not be overhyped
Published: May 17, 2025
As Galatasaray pushes for a domestic double, respected Turkish commentator Omer Urundul has advised fans and analysts not to get carried away with the growing hype around striker Victor Osimhen.
As quoted by habersarikirmizi.com, Üründül remarked: "Some players in our league should not be promoted too much. Victor Osimhen should go, they would hardly move in England or Italy."
His comments suggest that the striker's performances in the Turkish Süper Lig may not be an accurate reflection of his ability to succeed in tougher European leagues.
Urundul pointed to the level of defending in Turkey as a key factor behind his views.
"Turkish teams have very weak defense. They score goals with ease. European teams know how to defend very well," he added.
The remarks have sparked considerable debate in Turkish football circles, especially given Osimhen’s pedigree.
The Nigerian international previously enjoyed major success with Napoli in Italy’s Serie A—winning the Golden Boot and helping the club secure the Scudetto in the 2022–23 season.
Urundul comments appear to question whether the forward would be able to maintain similar levels of performance in more competitive environments such as the Premier League or a return to Serie A.
