Winners medals: Nigerian teenagers pictured with Spurs captain after Europa League triumph
Published: May 22, 2025
Callum Olusesi and Damola Ajayi, two Nigerian teenagers on the books at Tottenham Hotspur, were seen proudly wearing winners' medals after the club's historic Europa League victory over Manchester United on Wednesday night at San Mames Stadium in Bilbao, despite not featuring in the final.
Spurs clinched their fourth European title and first in 41 years, courtesy of Brennan Johnson’s decisive strike three minutes before halftime.
The victory not only ended a decades-long continental drought but also secured a place in next season's UEFA Champions League.
Manager Ange Postecoglou included both Ajayi and Olusesi in his traveling squad to Bilbao.
While Ajayi made the matchday roster as an unused substitute, Olusesi watched from the stands.
Both players made their senior debuts for Tottenham earlier in the Europa League campaign.
Ajayi made an instant impact by scoring three minutes after coming off the bench in a win over Swedish side Elfsborg, while Olusesi featured in the closing moments of a 3–2 victory against TSG Hoffenheim.
After the showpiece, Ajayi took to Instagram to celebrate the triumph, posting a photo alongside Spurs captain Heung-min Son and academy products Olusesi and Mikey Moore, captioned: "All glory to God."
Although limited to just one appearance each in this season’s European run, Ajayi and Olusesi could see more action next term as Tottenham prepare for a demanding campaign across five competitions: the Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, Champions League and UEFA Super Cup.
