KAA Gent confirm departure of Super Eagles centre-back who switched from Germany to Nigeria
Published: May 26, 2025
With a statement on the official website, Belgian Pro League side KAA Gent have officially confirmed the departure of Nigerian international Jordan Torunarigha, marking the end of a successful stint for the Super Eagles centre-back at the club.
Torunarigha leaves the Buffaloes following the expiration of his contract at the end of the 2024/25 campaign.
The towering defender joined Gent permanently in the summer of 2022 after impressing during a short loan spell from Hertha Berlin in the winter transfer window earlier that year.
The German-born defender, who switched allegiance to Nigeria and earned his first and only cap for the Super Eagles in 2023, quickly became a mainstay in Gent’s backline.
Over his three-and-a-half-year tenure, Torunarigha made 145 appearances and played a pivotal role in the club’s Belgian Cup triumph in 2022—one of the most cherished moments of his time in Ghent.
In a farewell message shared by the club, Torunarigha expressed his gratitude to Gent and its supporters for what he described as a transformative chapter in his career.
"I would like to thank the club for the wonderful time here in Ghent. We experienced intense years together that developed me as a footballer and as a person," he said.
"Also a big thank you to our fans, who have always supported me. The highlight was undoubtedly the cup in 2022. Now the time has come to take on a new challenge and take the next step in my career. I wish you all the best for the future!"
Ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window, the Nigerian international has attracted interest from several top European clubs.
