'The whole world knows their players' - Ex-Spartak defender labels Nigeria a top opponent
Published: June 03, 2025
Former Spartak Moscow defender Eduard Mor has called the Super Eagles a world-class team ahead of their friendly with 2018 World Cup hosts Russia in Moscow on Friday evening.
Mor praised the attacking strength of the Super Eagles, describing their forward line as one of the most dangerous in the world at the moment.
For the friendly against the Russians, Super Lig top scorer Victor Osimhen, reigning African Footballer of the Year Ademola Lookman, 2013 Fifa U17 World Cup Golden Ball winner Kelechi Iheanacho and former best African Player in La Liga Samuel Chukwueze are unavailable for selection, after pulling out of the squad due to personal reasons.
However, Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface, Nantes dazzler Moses Simon and Belgian Pro League Golden Boot winner Tolu Arokodare were part of the traveling squad to Russia and are in contention to add to their international caps.
Speaking to Match TV, via Championat, Mor expressed deep respect for the Super Eagles ahead of their upcoming clash with Russia, singling out the quality and depth of their offensive players.
He highlighted how several Nigerian forwards have consistently impressed in top European leagues, making the team a serious threat on the global stage.
"Of course, they are a top opponent. Not by African standards, but by world standards," Mor said.
"They have a scattering of players who have been playing successfully for strong European teams for a long time.
"The whole world knows their players. In their attacking line, one player is stronger than the other. I think the match will be very interesting and productive."
The Super Eagles head into their friendly against Russia in confident form, unbeaten in four straight matches since Eric Chelle took charge as head coach.
