Chelsea prepared to break transfer record to sign left-footed Nigerian CB also wanted by Arsenal

Chelsea are in talks with Polish Ekstraklasa club Motor Lublin over the potential signing of left-footed Nigerian centre-back Bright Ede.
According to several reports in the Polish press, including Meczyki, the Premier League giants have begun talks with Motor Lublin regarding the signing of Bright Ede.
If the deal goes through as expected, the transfer fee could exceed 11 million euros, which would mean a new Ekstraklasa transfer record.
At the end of May, while Chelsea were in Wroclaw for the UEFA Conference League final, talks took place between the Premier League club and Motor Lublin.
Representatives from both clubs reportedly met at a local hotel to discuss a potential transfer deal.
Chelsea are eager to finalize the deal swiftly as they are aware that Ede is attracting interest from clubs across Europe's top five leagues, including London rivals Arsenal.
A scout from Arsenal was in attendance at the Radom Municipal Stadium to closely monitor Ede, who played for 90 minutes before being substituted in stoppage time during Motor Lublin’s 3-2 victory over Radomiak Radom on May 24.
Motor Lublin bought the 18-year-old for a fee of €100,000 after seven months of contract extension talks with his previous club, Zaglebie Lubin, collapsed.
Ede has made just six top-flight appearances in his career to date, registering one goal and accumulating a total of 438 minutes on the pitch.
Eligible to represent Poland through his mother, he has made two appearances for the country's U18 national team and appears to be a fan of the Super Eagles as he follows the three-time African champions on social media.
