25 goals and 6 assists: Former Falconets forward wins Player of the Year award in Denmark
Published: June 13, 2025
Former Falconets star Joy Omewa has been voted the Danish Women's League Player of the Year for 2024-2025, following a breakout season at Fortuna Hjørring.
A total of 123 players from the Women's League cast their votes for the league's Player of the Year award, with the Nigerian forward emerging as the top choice.
The award is presented by the Players' Association in collaboration with Hessel HiRE.
Omewa had an incredible season, scoring 25 goals and providing six assists in twenty-seven appearances, before the final round of matches in the Women's League.
Her goals were a major factor in Fortuna Hjørring winning both the Danish Women's League and Women's Cup.
Omewa expressed her delight at winning the award following a stellar campaign in which she helped her team secure the double.
"Last season was not a good season for us. So before this season we promised each other that we would achieve more. I'm really happy that we've won ‘The Double’," she said in a press release.
"I'm the top scorer and now also the Player of the Year in the Women's League. It's big.
"I am very happy that the other players have chosen me as Player of the Year. I have worked hard to be where I am, so I am very grateful."
When asked to reveal her highlight of the season, Omewa picked the win against FC Nordsjælland.
"It was when we won against FC Nordsjælland in the first round. It was a really important game, and I scored a goal and made an assist in that game.
"That turned out to be the starting point for how it all ended for us."
Omewa clinched the Player of the Year award with 45 percent of the votes, finishing ahead of AGF’s Signe Baattrup and HB Koge’s Olivia Garcia, who garnered 20 percent and 16 percent of the votes respectively.
She will be officially presented with the award at Fortuna Hjørring's final match of the season on Saturday, June 14.
