Liverpool interested in signing Nigeria striker with 177 career goals for clubs and country

Liverpool have joined the race to sign Nigerian international Victor Osimhen as they look to bolster their attacking options ahead of the 2025/26 season, according to reports from Flashscore.com.

Osimhen is coming off a sensational loan spell at Galatasaray, where he netted 37 goals across all competitions, reaffirming his status as one of Europe’s deadliest finishers.

His goal tally last season has added to an already impressive career total of 177 goals for clubs and country.

The Reds interest comes amid growing uncertainty over the future of Uruguayan striker Darwin Núñez, who has been linked with potential moves to Napoli and clubs in the Saudi Pro League.

Liverpool are believed to be considering Osimhen as a marquee signing to lead the line should Núñez depart.

Osimhen's journey to the top has been marked by perseverance and growth.

After a breakout performance at the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup—where he won the Golden Boot—he endured a difficult stint at Wolfsburg.

He later revived his career at Belgian side Sporting Charleroi, scoring 20 goals in one season, which earned him a move to Lille in Ligue 1.

There, he added 18 goals before making a big-money move to Napoli, where he netted 76 goals and won the Serie A title in 2023.

His form earned him a high-profile loan to Galatasaray, and his performances in Turkey have once again caught the eye of top clubs, including Manchester United, Al Hilal, and Galatasaray themselves, who are reportedly eager to sign him permanently.

Internationally, Osimhen has scored 26 goals for Nigeria, putting him on track to potentially break Rashidi Yekini’s long-standing record as the country’s all-time top scorer.

As the summer transfer window heats up, the Nigerian striker has emerged as one of the most sought-after forwards in world football, with his proven goal-scoring pedigree making him a prime target for top clubs across Europe and beyond.
