History-maker: Maresca hails George after breaking Chelsea record held by Liam Delap

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has heaped praise on history-making forward Tyrique George following his strike in Chelsea's 3-0 victory over ES Tunis in Philadelphia.

Just before the final whistle, England U19 international George, who is also eligible to represent Nigeria's Super Eagles and Ghana's Black Stars, etched his name into Chelsea's history books by getting on the scoresheet.

At just 19 years and 141 days old, George became the youngest player to score for Chelsea at the Fifa Club World Cup, surpassing the previous mark held by Liam Delap, who was 22 years and 137 days when he netted the Blues' second goal earlier in the same match.

George, who had an impressive campaign with the first and development squad, scored the third goal with Tosin Adarabioyo opening the scoring in the first half.

The tri-national forward found the back of the net in stoppage time, beating Bechir Ben Said with a powerful low drive to the bottom corner to ensure Chelsea progressed to the Round of 16 to face Benfica.

The youngster has now featured in two Club World Cup matches — against Los Angeles FC and ES Tunis.

Speaking post-match, Maresca expressed satisfaction with his performance against the Tunisian club.

"I am very happy for all of them, even for Tyrique. He is very young. He's 19, it's important and we continue to grow," he told Chelsea media

George had a brilliant campaign with the Blues, scoring one goal and providing two assists as Chelsea won the Uefa Conference League title in May.

Ahead of the upcoming campaign, George will hope to continue his fine form to ensure he cements his position in the senior side.
