Record-holder for Nigeria's fastest international goal departs Southampton for Trabzonspor
Published: June 27, 2025
After weeks of talks concerning a move back to Trabzonspor, Southampton have now confirmed the exit of Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu to the Turkish Super Lig side.
Onuachu holds the record for Nigeria's fastest-ever goal in an international match, netting inside ten seconds on his full debut in a friendly against Egypt on March 22, 2019.
The 31-year-old joined the Saints from Genk in the 2023 winter transfer window, signing an initial three-and-a-half-year deal for a fee of around €18 million.
Following Southampton's relegation at the end of the 2022-2023 season, during which he failed to register a single goal involvement, the forward joined Trabzonspor on loan in September 2023.
He rediscovered his form in Turkey, netting 17 goals and supplying four assists in 25 appearances.
In his final season at Southampton, Onuachu scored four goals in 25 games in the English top-flight, which was not enough to secure their place in the Premier League.
The towering striker currently has 25 caps for the Nigeria national team and was part of the Super Eagles squad that lost in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final to Ivory Coast, though he was an unused substitute in the showpiece.
Onuachu links up with 2017 Super Eagles invitee Anthony Nwakaeme at Trabzonspor.
