Confirmed: Two youngsters of Nigerian descent sign new deals with West Brom
Published: July 02, 2025
Through the official website, West Brom have informed that thirteen players have signed scholarship terms with the club ahead of the upcoming season, including Nigerian centre-back Joel Asomugha.
Asomugha has been promoted to the Baggies U18s squad and the deal keeps him at the club until at least June 30, 2027.
The defender has already made his competitive debut for West Brom U18s, featuring in five matches in the U18 Premier League in his final season as a schoolboy.
Asomugha is deeply connected to West Brom, having progressed through the club's youth system.
The Baggies informed on Tuesday that another youngster of Nigerian descent, Dan Chimeziri, has signed his first professional contract for the club.
A striker by trade, Chimeziri moved from Queens Park Rangers to The Hawthorns in June 2023.
His performances for West Brom youth teams have earned him a contract extension.
After his arrival at West Brom, he made an instant impact by registering seven goals and eight assists in his debut season.
Chimeziri matched his goal tally the following campaign across U18 and U21 fixtures before an injury sidelined him until April.
The 18-year-old has demonstrated his ability to compete against older opposition by getting on the scoresheet in both the Premier League 2 and National League Cup.
