Confirmed: Talented midfielder of Nigerian descent signs new deal with Celtic
Published: July 03, 2025
With a statement on the official website, Scottish Premiership champions Celtic have announced that seven youngsters have signed their first professional contracts with the club, including talented midfielder of Nigerian descent Emmanuel Obidiwe.
Hassan Dembele, Nathan Meechan, Joseph Haney, Rocco Di Giacomo, Lucas Clearie and Kayden Daly have also signed new deals.
Obidiwe has been rewarded with a new deal following his outstanding performances for the youth teams of Celtic.
He featured above his age group last season, making a substitute appearance as Celtic B were edged out on penalties by city rivals Rangers in the Glasgow Cup final in April.
In the same month, he stepped off the bench to score a decisive equaliser as Celtic B held Broxburn Athletic to a 1–1 draw in a Lowland League encounter.
On the international stage, Obidiwe earned his first call-up to the Scotland youth setup for three friendly matches in February's UEFA Youth Development Tournament.
He marked his debut in style, scoring as Scotland U16s came from behind to claim a 3–1 victory over Cyprus in their opening match of the tournament.
Obidiwe follows the Super Eagles and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen on social media, reflecting his interest in the three-time African champions.
