'Biggest reinforcement' – Slavia chairman hails Super Eagles CB decision to extend contract

Slavia Prague have secured the futures of two of their key players, Igoh Ogbu and Christos Zafeiris, by tying them down to new contracts at Fortuna Arena, fending off potential interest from abroad.

Both players had attracted attention from foreign clubs following impressive performances last season, but the Czech giants have moved swiftly to ensure their continued presence in the squad.

The Nigeria international signed a new deal in May, shortly before joining the Super Eagles camp in London for the Unity Cup.

Ogbu, a commanding centre-back, has become integral to Slavia's setup under manager Jindřich Trpišovský.

Signed from Lillestrom in January 2023, he extended his stay at Slavia Prague despite interest from Galatasaray and Ligue 1 clubs.

It is believed that the former Flying Eagles star turned down offers from foreign clubs in favour of playing in the UEFA Champions League next season.

Club chairman Jaroslav Tvrdík hailed the decision of Zafeiris and Ogbu to remain at Slavia, suggesting their commitment is more valuable than any new arrival.

"The guys who stayed are the biggest reinforcements for us," Tvrdík was quoted as saying by Idnes.

Ogbu is just seven games short of reaching the milestone of 100 appearances for Slavia Prague.
