'I'm back' – Super Eagles midfielder Onyeka drops hint about Brentford future amid Valencia interest
Published: July 12, 2025
Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka has dropped a major hint about his future, confirming plans to return to Brentford ahead of the new season despite interest from La Liga side Valencia.
The Bees are unlikely to sanction the departure of Onyeka in the summer transfer window, following the recent sale of defensive midfielder Christian Nørgaard to Arsenal.
The 27-year-old spent the 2024-2025 campaign on loan at German Bundesliga outfit FC Augsburg, where he enjoyed a strong run of form and consistent minutes, something he struggled to secure in previous seasons at Brentford.
Onyeka started 33 out of a possible 35 games in all competitions during his loan spell at Augsburg.
Valencia have reportedly shown interest in the Nigerian international, but his recent comments suggest he is focused on re-establishing himself in west London.
Brentford are under the guidance of a new head coach Keith Andrews following the departure of Thomas Frank to Tottenham Hotspur.
Speaking on the The Culture League podcast, Onyeka stated: "For me, going to next season is just to help my team because I was on loan last season in Germany. I'm going back to Brenftord.
"New coach, for me, it's going to impress the coach, start pre-season, going to the new season, and help the team as much as possible."
Reflecting on his time in Germany, Onyeka said: "Last season was successful because all I wanted was to play regularly, from the start — which I did.
"Thankfully, the team was happy with my performance. So now I am back at Brentford and happy to be back."
Onyeka has two years left on his contract with Brentford, whom he joined from Danish outfit FC Midtjylland in the summer of 2021.
