Chido Obi named in travelling squad for Man Utd's pre-season fixture against Leeds United
Published: July 18, 2025
Manager Ruben Amorim has named his travelling squad for his side's first pre-season fixture, a friendly against Premier League new boys Leeds United in Stockholm on Saturday.
Denmark U21 international of Nigerian descent Chido Obi is among the twenty-nine players heading to Scandinavia.
The talented striker has been training with United's first team since the start of pre-season preparations, and has been allocated a new shirt number for the upcoming season.
The new Manchester United number 32 is among six forwards named in the squad, alongside Rasmus Højlund, Matheus Cunha, Amad, Ethan Williams and Bendito Mantato.
Another player of Nigerian descent, Habeeb Ogunneye is not available for selection, having completed a season-long loan move to League Two club Newport County three days ago.
Cap-tied Netherlands international of Nigerian descent, Joshua Zirkzee remained at Carrington to recover from a minor injury but he's expected to be named in the squad for the tour of the United States next week.
After impressing at youth level, Obi made his senior debut in February, coming off the bench to replace Casemiro in a Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur.
Obi capped off a breakthrough debut season in style, netting twice during Manchester United's post-season friendly at Hong Kong Stadium to help the team overturn a deficit and secure a 3-1 victory over their hosts.
