Chido Obi wears new shirt number as Man Utd and Leeds United play out goalless draw
Published: July 19, 2025
Wearing the number 32 on the back of his jersey, Manchester United youngster Chido Obi was handed a starting role on Saturday afternoon as the Red Devils were held to a goalless draw by Leeds United in a pre-season friendly in Stockholm.
Obi, who recently received the number 32 shirt ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, featured in the first half before manager Ruben Amorim made wholesale changes at the break.
The Nigeria-eligible striker was a bright spark in United’s attack, displaying strength, sharp movement, and intelligent positioning that consistently troubled the Leeds defence.
Though the 17-year-old had a few attempts on goal, he was unlucky not to score.
Nevertheless, his performance will give United fans optimism as he pushes for more involvement with the senior squad this season.
Obi joined Manchester United last summer from Arsenal and made a strong impression during the previous campaign, appearing seven times in the Premier League.
He netted his first senior goals in the post-season friendly against Hong Kong, helping the Red Devils to a 3-1 comeback win.
With a few more warm-up games scheduled before the Premier League resumes, Obi will be keen to build on his performance and stake a stronger claim for regular minutes under Amorim in the upcoming season.
