'I know' – Shamrock Rovers coach confirms Arsenal-linked Irish-Nigerian midfielder is close to a move
Published: July 19, 2025
Shamrock Rovers head coach Stephen Bradley has confirmed that rising Irish-Nigerian midfielder Victor Ozhianvuna is edging closer to a move away from the club, amid strong interest from English giants Arsenal.
The 16-year-old, who burst onto the senior scene in January 2025 during a 4-0 victory over Usher Celtic, has attracted attention across Europe for his composure, versatility, and flair in midfield.
Reports indicate that Arsenal are leading the chase for the teenager’s signature, with a deal worth around €2 million believed to be in the final stages.
Despite being close to a move, Ozhianvuna will not be eligible to join the Premier League side until he turns 18 in 2027 due to post-Brexit transfer regulations.
In quotes related by Sports Joe, Bradley revealed that Shamrock Rovers' Director of Football, Stephen McPhail, is in advanced negotiations with a club, believed to be Arsenal.
"I know Stephen McPhail (Shamrock Rovers Director of Football) is right down the line with a club," Bradley said.
"Yeah, I know he’s right there. He is a really special talent. I think that is quite clear to see. You will see that more and more as he goes.
"There are so many more layers to him; he can play inside, he can be the 10, he can play off the right, off the front-man. He’s a special talent."
Born in Ireland to Nigerian and Russian parents, Ozhianvuna has already made waves in the League of Ireland Premier Division and the UEFA Conference League.
His technical ability, direct running, and versatility have marked him out as one of the most exciting young prospects to emerge from Ireland in recent years.
